Decluttering Your Homeschool
Art supplies, papers, pencils, binders, and the list goes on and on.
Ah, yes. That’s what a typical homeschool (or part of it) looks like.
But yours doesn’t have to be like this.
In this blog post on organizational skills, let’s look at how to declutter your homeschool so you can manage your homeschool, your little ones, and yourself better.
Step # 1 – Declutter Your Head
When you are a homeschool parent, your head is always full of ideas. You want to do activities, read stories, work with art supplies and do tons of other things. Yes, you don’t want to miss out on any learning opportunity for your children.
Stop right away!
It is true that you want to give your children the best, but let’s accept that we live in a world of scarcity, and time is a huge limiting factor. So the first step to decluttering your homeschool is to declutter your thoughts. Know that you cannot do everything you want. So take a piece of paper and put down everything you want to do with your kids.
Next, number the things you can accomplish in a single day (you have to be realistic for this). And finally, prioritize!
Once you declutter your thoughts and ideas, you will surely be a step closer to decluttering your homeschool.
Step # 2 Organize Your Homeschool
When you know what you have to accomplish in your homeschool, you will be better positioned to arrange your house to facilitate learning. You don’t have to designate your entire house for your homeschool, but you can assign a specific area in your home that is more conducive to learning. Here are some tips that you can use to make your homeschool more attractive to young learners.
Create a Comfortable Ambiance
Create an ambiance that encourages your little ones to learn. Make the area visually appealing and comfortable for you and your children. Make sure there is enough lighting in the room. It is always best to take advantage of sunlight so place your furniture (or floor sitting) accordingly.
Provide Easy Access to Supplies
Organize art supplies and books such that children can quickly grab them and put them back. Know that kids are naturally messy, but if you equip them with the right skills and enough practice opportunities, they can tidy up independently from a very young age.
Create a Central Space for Supplies
When you organize your homeschool, one thing that can trouble you throughout is school supplies: papers, markers, crayons, pencils, and the endless clutter. Instead of giving each of your children a personalized set of art supplies, it is always better to have a central space where kids can share pencils, crayons, markers, stapler, etc. You can invest in a caddy or a rolling trolley loaded with all the essential supplies. An added advantage, your kids will learn to share and take turns.
Bin is a Must!
A lot happens in a homeschool but let’s not use it as an excuse for cluttered learning space.
It is always a good idea to teach your kids to throw all the rubbish in the bin once they are done with the task. You can help accomplish this target by placing a bin close by so it is accessible for your kids.
Bonus: With less litter around, there is a lesser need for decluttering your homeschool.
Step # 3: Declutter Your Schedule
The third and most important step in decluttering your homeschool is to declutter your schedule. With a clear mind and realistic expectations, now is the time to reflect on your schedule and see what activities are essential for your homeschool and children. Only when you reflect you can determine which activities/tasks are not as meaningful as others. So go ahead and declutter your schedule by removing everything that’s not as important to you. The more decluttered your schedule will be, the more relaxed you will feel.
Final Words
Your decluttered homeschool is just three steps away.
So what are you waiting for?
