How to Effectively Prioritize Your House Chores?

How many times have you looked around the house and wondered when all the work would end?

Or maybe where should I start from?

There is no denial that house chores can be never-ending. You complete one thing, and there are some more waiting for you in the other corner of your house. If you are  struggling with completing house chores, don’t worry.

I am here to help. This blog post on smart productivity is all about effectively prioritizing your house chores. Once you master this art, you will (most likely) be done with most of your house chores well in time while maintaining your sanity and effectively managing your life. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Start Your Day Early

One tip that always comes in handy when it comes to improving productivity is “start your day early.” When you get into the habit of waking up early, you have ample time before your workday technically begins. As a result, you can use this time to meditate, have a cup of coffee while your kids are still sleeping and give an excellent start to your day.

When you have a pleasant morning, you are more likely to have an enjoyable day!

Have a Plan of Action

You know your house, and you know exactly what needs to be done. But let’s be realistic. You can’t accomplish everything in a single day. So every day, make it a habit to plan the things you need to do. Certain things indeed need to be done every day, such as doing the dishes, cleaning the kitchen, or making the bed.

But what about those once-in-a-while tasks such as clearing up the closet or putting away winter clothes?

And that’s when having a plan helps.

Have a plan of action and then go through the list and see what you can accomplish today and what you can push off to the next day.

Make sure you do this before you technically start the day. And that’s where starting your day early helps!

Get to Work

Now that you already had a great start to your day, it’s time to get to work. Start with the list (in hand or in mind). A good idea is to start with chores in the most glaring home areas, such as your kitchen. You can then move to the bedrooms, bathrooms, and laundry.

Pro Tip: With kids around and work from home arrangements, you may end up with little house chores done every day, but the most important thing is to get it done!

Have a prioritized list, and eventually, you will get done with it. All you need is persistence.

Do Little Things Timely

Are you in the habit of tossing in a dirty spoon in the sink, thinking you will wash it later?

It’s time to change. Wash it right away. Put the shoes in their place instead of leaving them in the middle of the room. Are you folding laundry? Put it right away. Fold your blanket as soon as you wake up.

All of these tasks may seem trivial, but when you leave them for a later time, they take up a lot of time. So do the little things timely and keep your house in order, and you can save your time and energy for major cleanups over the weekend.

Delegate

House chores are exactly the same as managing work in a professional setting. You cannot accomplish everything single-handedly, so stick to the golden rule of management and delegation. If you have children around, you can assign them age-appropriate tasks and reward them adequately. Remember, kids who do house chores at a younger age turn out to be more organised as adults. Similarly, capitalize on your spouse’s skills and delegate chores that they are good at, such as running errands, maintaining the garage, etc.

Rely on Your Partners

When it comes to house chores, every person who lives in the house is a partner. When you treat them like a partner, it gives them the responsibility to keep the house in order. If everything in your home already has a place, it’s the right time to train your kids (and spouse) to keep the house in order by putting everything back in its place.

You can reward good behaviors in family outings, a fancy meal, or something as simple as a family hug!

With these suggestions (and your customized ideas), I hope you will prioritize your house chores effectively. The result will be a cleaner home and a happier you.
